It amazes me daily how the Lord works, how he blesses us, how he leads us. When we returned to El Salvador in 2000 I was given money to remodel our mission owned apartment. I went to work and changed the flooring and the kitchen. It was what I always wanted to do with the apartment and after the dust settled I just loved the results. I remember sitting in our living room, thanking the Lord for the beautiful apartment he had given me to live in. Then I heard a still small voice ask me “Valerie, are you willing to leave?” Right away I thought “Oh no Lord, you aren’t asking me to leave my home, not El Salvador, the country I loved!” During the next four years the Lord kept talking to me and my husband about his new plan for our lives. It was to do something we had said we would never do…live in the states, Springfield, MO to be exact, and expand our work to include the training of US missionaries as well as our Latin American Missionaries. It was a struggle to say yes but we did. In April of 2004 I started selling everything I had. I remember thinking that I was going to sell everything at a good price because I would have to replace everything in the states. However, most of my major items weren’t selling. Then the superintendent and his wife came by the house to look at the things I had left. Sister Pacita kept asking me to come way down on my appliances and furniture. She kept telling me, “Sister, you need to come down because we are servants of the Lord.” I replied “But Sister, I am a servant of the Lord too and I have to replace these things in the States” She looked at me and smiled “If you sell these to me at this low price the Lord will surely bless you!” So I sold her the rest of my possessions at rock bottom prices and I told her that when she used these things she had to pray for us. It was so hard to leave the people we loved and worked with for 20 years.          We arrived in the US in June of 2004. In July we had to go to Springfield, MO for School of Missions. Three days before we were to return to California some friends of ours had us over for dinner. After dinner they handed us an envelope that contained a check. They said that the Lord had directed them to give us that check for the down payment for a house. We couldn’t believe it! Then they gave us the card for their realtor and told us to visit him the next day. The next day we went with the realtor to look at houses. The first house we looked at I fell in love with. It was exactly what I wanted in a house. It had four bedrooms, three and a half baths, a beautiful kitchen, dinning area, living room and family room. It had a huge walk in closet and a jetted bathtub in the master bedroom. It also had one of the bedrooms and bathroom down stairs. The only problem was that it was on the wrong side of town. DeLonn wanted to live on the north side of town closer to the Assembly of God Seminary. So we kept looking but we didn’t like anything like we liked the first house. So we looked into building the same house on the north side of town, but we found out that it would cost more than we could afford. So DeLonn said okay to the house on the southwest side of town. We then picked out our lot and closed the deal. It was built for us while we did our deputation in California. We closed on the house two months before we moved into it. I am now writing you from my beautiful house, a gift from God. Sister Pacita was right; when you give your all to the Lord he blesses you with amazing gifts. What makes this house even more awesome than this miracle story of us finding it is that my new address is 3962 S. El Salvador Ave.! Isn’t the Lord good? Please keep us in your prayers, the transition hasn’t been easy but we know that we are where the Lord wants us to be…still in El Salvador.
